Your logline is often the first, and sometimes only, chance to convince someone your story is worth reading. In just one or two sentences, it needs to hook attention, communicate your concept, and make people want more.
Join acclaimed screenwriter Ellen Shanman (upcoming
Voltron and
Gallagher Girls) for an energetic, highly interactive 90-minute workshop designed to transform your idea into a logline with real commercial impact. Through live examples, you'll uncover the "engine" of your story, pressure-test the commercial strength of your concept, and learn the critical difference between a compelling situation and a truly marketable story. You'll leave with actionable insights and techniques to craft a logline that captures attention, communicates the heart of your story, and strengthens your pitch.
Attendees are
invited to submit their own loglines for live feedback and discussion (optional). Selected loglines will be workshopped by Ellen in real time, allowing everyone to learn from the process. If you'd like your project to be considered, simply submit your logline during registration.

Ellen Shanman Bio
Ellen Shanman is a screenwriter whose favorite projects include adaptations of bestselling spy girl book series Gallagher Girls for Paramount; Tom Clancy’s The Division video game for Netflix; and non-fiction, New York Times bestseller Nothing Daunted for Black Label Media.
She has written assassins, superheroes, soldiers and psychopaths for most of the major studios and is the author of two novels from Random House/Bantam Dell, Right Before Your Eyes, and Everything Nice – the latter of which she adapted for Charlize Theron’s Denver & Delilah Productions.
Ellen is a graduate of Northwestern University and has been happily involved with selections and mentoring for Film Independent’s Artist Development programs for the last decade.
She is currently at work on an adaptation of Janet Evanovich novel The Recovery Agent for Paramount, and grounded sci-fi/ action film Blur for Netflix. With director Rawson Marshall Thurber, Ellen co-wrote a live-action feature adaptation of animated series Voltron for Amazon MGM Studios, which will be released in 2027.
