We launched in May 2001 as the Los Angeles Australian Film and Television Association (LAAFTA) and relaunched with a new name and structure as australiansinfilm in March 2004.

The organisation was formed out of the overwhelming interest in Hollywood regarding Australian talent and new Australian films. australiansinfilm provides a regular forum for the industry to come together to view new Australian films and television drama and to celebrate the work of Australians from all over the world. With the re-launch australiansinfilm is looking to further grow our membership and cement our growing reputation as being a major player in Hollywood not only to showcase Australians and their works in film, but as a place where Australians new to Los Angeles can turn to for support, refuge and a nice cold Aussie beer.

australiansinfilm boasts a membership now in excess of 450. Over two thirds of the membership are ex-pat Australians living in LA, working in the entertainment industry and the other third are predominantly Americans. Our members come from all sectors of the industry including actors, writers, producers, directors, screen composers and studio executives. A significant number of the membership are also affiliated with influential organizations in Hollywood such as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, BAFTA and the Academy of Television Art and Sciences, DGA, SAG, and WGA.

We have screened over 60 films in our five year existence including Australian films such as Looking For Alibrandi, The Bank, Lantana, Rabbit Proof Fence, Walking On Water, Japanese Story, Ned Kelly, Wolf Creek, Little Fish, The World's Fastest Indian and The Proposition. Some of the American films screened featuring Australian talent include Queen of the Damned, The Ring, The Hours, X2 - X Men United, Master and Commander, 21 Grams, Collateral, In Her Shoes, Brokeback Mountain and Kinky Boots.

australiansinfilm is renowned for the calibre of our Q & A's with international stars and australiansinfilm ambassadors like Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Toni Collette, Heath Ledger, Bryan Brown, Phillip Noyce and Peter Weir. australiansinfilm also provides a forum for up and coming Australian based filmmakers such as Tony Ayres, Anastasia Sideris, Robert Connolly, Oscar® nominated director Steven Pasvolsky and 2004 Academy Award® winner Adam Elliot.

Events such as the 2005 and 2006 Australians in Film Breakthrough Awards have further raised the profile of the organization and have become prized invitations on the Hollywood party circuit. Both the Australian and US media regularly cover these parties that are attended by a Who's-Who of the entertainment world.
