Abbie Cornish is in talks to join Gerard Butler in Dean Devlin's Geostorm.

Jim Sturgess, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia also are in negotiations to join the cast of the Warner Bros. and Skydance sci-fic adventure.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news today, filming will take place in New Orleans in October.

The film follows the story of a satellite designer (Butler) and his estranged brother (Sturgess), who are called upon to stop a man-made storm from destroying the planet. Cornish is in talks to play a Secret Service agent and Sturgess' girlfriend.

The script was co-written by Devlin, whose previously cowrote Stargate (1994), Independence Day (1996) and Godzilla (1998).

Cornish can next be seen in Afonso Poyart's tiller Solace opposite Colin Farrell and Anthony Hopkins. Cornish and Farrell previously worked together on 2012 film Seven Psychopaths.

Cornish received the Australians in Film Breakthrough Award in 2008.
