Alex Russell has been tapped to lead the cast of AMC's new drama pilot Galyntine.
Galyntine is set at a time after a cataclysmic technology-induced disaster has forced a new formed society to shun any form of technology. This catastrophic event leaves small numbers of survivors scattered around the planet and forced to adapt to isolation and unique challenges.
According to Deadline, who broke the news, Russell is tapped to play Roman,'an orphan who was unofficially adopted by his best friend Aethys’ family. A very public victory appears to cement his status as a future leader of the colony, but a twist of fate (and a deeply wounding betrayal) set him on a different, more dangerous path.'
He joins Catherine Dent and Charlotte D'Ambroise who are already attached.
Keeping it within the AMC family, Jason Cahill, who is currently writing on another AMC series Halt and Catch Fire, penned the pilot and is executive producing along with Greg Nicotero (AMC's The Walking Dead).
Alex recently wrapped filming on Angelina Jolie's biographical drama Unbroken, and Tony Ayres's Australian thriller Cut Snake, which also stars Jessica De Gouw and Sillivan Stapleton.
He can next be seen starring in Believe Me, which is being released 26 September, 2014 in cinemas and VOD. The comedy follows the story of four desperate and broke college seniors who start a fake charity to embezzle money for tuition.
