Liam Hemsworth, Isla Fisher and The Great Gatsby's breakout star, Elizabeth Debicki, have joined Kate Winslet and fellow Aussie Judy Davis on the cast of romantic drama, The Dressmaker.
Set in 1950s outback Australia, Winslet will play Tilly Dunnage, a woman who returns to the small country town she fled from as a child, after being accused of murder. Davis is cast to play her eccentric mother, Molly, and Liam will play her love interest, Teddy.
No stranger to Australia, Winslet starred in Jane Campion's 1999 Dramedy Holy Smoke, which filmed in locations across New South Wales and South Australia.
Melbourne-born Jocelyn Moorhouse (How to Make and American Quilt) will direct from a screenplay she adapted from a novel by Rosalie Ham.
Moorehouse said: "Kate Winslet is perfect for Tilly. She’s beautiful, intelligent, and deeply mysterious on screen. Judy Davis is amongst the great contemporary actresses and she will bring powerful wit and charm to the role of Molly. Liam Hemsworth is a laid back, genuine charmer who’s also tall, dark and movie-star handsome. He’ll create a character for the audience to fall in love with.”
According to producer Sue Maslin, filming is expected to begin in October in Victoria.
