Alex O'Loughlin looks beyond Hawaii Five-0

Alex O'Loughlin says that has signed up for two more seasons of his hit CBS show "Hawaii Five-O" but is also looking forward to his next project.

At Australians in Film's gala last Thursday, Alex told the Associated Press,

"I read Doug Liman's script, 'Everest,' which he's about to start directing- it's amazing and it's invigorating, but it's also heartbreaking at the same time because it feels so far away from me at the moment... I've never played one character for this long. And it's network TV, too, so it comes with its own set of challenges from the artist's perspective. But I'm very lucky. My kids will get to go to good schools, we all eat organic food, and I live in Hawaii."

"I mean, we've had cast troubles. I got really hurt and had to go and sort myself out in the second season. We've had injuries, we've had all sorts of things. It just keeps going."

"We can't seem to kill it, so I guess it's going to stick around for a while... At the moment I can't imagine working any longer than tomorrow. Because there's just so much work. But we'll see, we'll see. I want to do other things sooner rather than later."

Now in its fourth season, Hawaii Five-0 is a contemporary take on the classic series about a new elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands' sun-drenched beaches.

O'Loughlin plays Detective Steve McGarrett, a decorated Naval officer-turned-cop, who returns to Oahu to investigate his father's murder and stays after Hawaii's Governor persuades him to head up the new team.

O'Loughlin is Australians in Film's recipient of the 2013 Breakthrough Award.

Congrats, Alex!
