BREAKING: Russell Crowe to star in Fathers and Daughters

Monday, October 14, 2013 12:09 PM | Anonymous

Russell Crowe is set to star in Gabriele Muccino's drama "Fathers and Daughters". Crowe is also on board as executive producer.

According to Deadline, "Fathers and Daughters" is a love story between a father and daughter who live in Manhattan 25 years apart. The story moves back and forth between the 1980s where a famous novelist and widower struggles with mental illness as he tries to raise his 5-year old daughter; then it shows that daughter as a 30-year old woman in contemporary Gotham who battles her own demons that stem from that turbulent childhood.

Muccino said in a statement:

“This is a performance-driven movie, and therefore I couldn’t ask for a better actor than Russell to deliver this intensely emotional drama. It’s edgy, heart-wrenching, and uplifting at the same time. To me, it feels like a classic American movie that recalls the great character dramas of the 70s like Kramer Vs. Kramer and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest."

The female lead is yet to be cast.

Muccino will direct a script penned by Brad Desch, and production is expected to begin this December in New York.

Crowe can next be seen in Akiva Goldsman's supernatural drama "Winter's Tale" adapted from Mark Helprin's novel. Winter's tale stars Will Smith, Matt Bomer, Jennifer Connelly and Colin Farrell.

The film is currently scheduled for release February 2014.

Russell Crowe is an ambassador of Australians in Film.

Congrats, Russell.
