Rising Australian star Alex Russell has joined Jack O'Connell, Garrett Hedlund and Domnhall Gleeson on the cast of Angelina Jolie's war drama "Unbroken".
"Unbroken" tells the true story of Louis Zamperini, an American track star and second lieutenant in the US Army Air Force during World War II, whose plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean while on assignment.
Zamperini survived for 47 days in the Ocean before his raft was washed ashore the Marshall Islands, where he was captured by Japanese forces and held captive and tortured for two years.
O'Connell is cast to play Zamperini and Russell will play his older brother Pete.
Directed by Angelina Jolie, "Unbroken" will be shot in Queensland.
Universal Pictures has scheduled the movie for release in the U.S. on Christmas Day 2014.
Russell will soon be seen playing Billy Nolan in the upcoming remake of the horror flick "Carrrie". John Travolta played Nolan in the original 1976 film.
"Carrie" is a re-imagining of the classic horror tale about a shy outcast with a deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.
