The dipping Aussie dollar entices another Hollywood film to Oz

Monday, August 19, 2013 3:17 PM | Anonymous

Hot on the heels of Angelina Jolie's decision to film her World War II drama "Unbroken" in Oz, Pandemonium Films is expecting to also shoot their Pierce Brosnan, Bill Nighy, Fan Bingbing flick "The Moon & the Sun" in both Australia and France.

The film is expected to create jobs for many talented Australians working both in front of and behind the camera.

According to IF, Ausfilm helped secure the deal by organizing producer Bill Mechanic's trip to Australia to location scout, inspect studio facilities and meet key crew.

Based on a fairytale by Vonda McIntyre, and directed by Sean McNamara, The Moon & the Sun tells the story of King Louis XIV (Brosnan) who holds a mermaid (Bingbing) captive, as he seeks to exploit her for his own immortality.

Mechanic told IF: “We are going to shoot in Versailles and then the studio and tank work in Australia this spring.

“The creative work done on The Great Gatsby and The Wolverine convinced me that the production plan not only would work, but there were so many talented artists in Australia for my movie that it might even be best made here,“ he continued.

Filming is expected to begin early next year.
