Vegemite makes the leap from the pantry to the screen

Thursday, August 08, 2013 4:19 PM | Anonymous

The story of the paste that has divided a nation is being turned into a film by Aussie filmmaker Richard Keddie.

Keddie purchased the film rights to "The Man Who Invented Vegemite" - a book by Jamie Callister, which chronicles the life of his grandfather, Cyril Callister - the chemist in food technology who developed the iconic salty paste in 1922.

Though he hasn't decided whether the film will be made for the small or silver screen, Keddie said of his film: "It's an advertising Mad Men story, it's a history story, it's a family story."
