Career Development Programs


The Inaugural Mentor LA Industry Mentorship Program, Eden Gaha, Bruna Papandrea, Stuart Beattie and Deborah Riley announced as mentors. 

MENTOR LA will match four early-to-mid-level practitioners who currently work in the Australian industry with dedicated mentors who work in the US, giving them the opportunity to gain international industry knowledge from people who have excelled in their field.

The Village Roadshow Entertainment and Animal Logic Entertainment Internship is open to Australian film business undergraduate students and recent graduates, who demonstrate significant potential in their areas of expertise. The program involves working with Village Roadshow Pictures and Animal Logic executives in Los Angeles to gain hands-on experience in developing, acquiring, packaging and producing feature films for the international market.

GatewayLA is a script development program for film and television writers. It aims to develop audience-driven, Australian-created content for US and international audiences, with the aim to spotlight and promote a select list of screenplays -- in the model of The Black List and the UK’s Brit List. In particular, the program promotes writers to both Australian and international producers, development executives and talent in Los Angeles, where AiF has a base.

Australians in Film has announced a number of judges for the Eighth Annual Heath Ledger Scholarship, which include an Academy Award nominated actress, the Head of Casting for Paramount Pictures, an AACTA winning director, the producer of The Town and Sicario and the TV casting director for Breaking Bad.

Applications for the Scholarship closed on Monday, 4 April (Heath’s Birthday) at 6PM PDT / Tuesday, April 5 at 11AM AEST.

The award will go to an exceptional young Australian actor, who possesses a rare and unique combination of talent and screen presence.

Screen Queensland and Australians in Film launched the Greg Coote Scholarship – an opportunity for an experienced writer, producer, director or creative executive to spend a minimum of 6-8 weeks in a US television series writers’ room. 

The Scholarship is awarded to an individual with experience and success in creating drama for the screen, and a demonstrable passion for creating television drama. It is an opportunity for a Queensland creative to learn and capitalize from the prestige and quality of US television drama as part of Screen Queensland’s strategy to develop the state’s pool of talent in television and long-form drama.
